The San Francisco Giants picked up a nice divisional win on Monday night as the defeated the Colorado Rockies by the score of 4-0. With the victory over the Rockies, the Giants are now 12-15 on the season.
Matt Cain tossed 5.1 innings as he got the start on the mound for the Giants . Cain picked up the win which was his first win of the season. Cain was a bit wild as he walked five batters, but he made sure that those walks didn’t come around to score which is the main thing.
Vinnie Chulk, Tyler Walker, and Brian Wilson finished off the Rockies to close out the game and preserve the shutout.
Aaron Rowand led the Giants at the plate with two RBI while Ray Durham and Rich Aurilia both had one RBI. One thing I didn’t like in the game was that Giants stranded 23 runners on base. They could have easily scored 8-9 runs in the game if they would have just put the ball in play a little bit more often.
It should also be noted that Barry Zito has lost his spot in the starting rotation and will now see some action out of the bullpen until he gets his control back and proves he can pitch six or seven innings in a ballgame without giving up four or five runs.
